Slippage
Artscape comes to TU! Slippage, organized by Daniel Belasco, Curator of the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, State University of New York, New Paltz, is a group show of artworks that portray moments when meaning shifts, switches, or slips away. Photographs without fixatives fade into abstractions. Three-dimensional objects conceal and reveal symbolic color. Mouths appear as the vulgar gateways of sensual and verbal pleasure and play. Acid-colored sweets tempt and revolt the eye. A slightly altered phrase switches its meaning from solid to provisional statement of identity.Slippage invites the viewer to consider how our indeterminate world is experienced visually through images of sensual pleasure, decorative patterns, and linguistic signs of weakened collective bonds. Featured artists include: George Belcher, Emily Campbell, J.M. Giordano, Courtnee Hawkins, Hermonie, only. (Williams), William Knipscher, Jae Hee Lee, Jake Levin, Cory Oberndorfer, Cathleen Sachse, Joshua Wade Smith, Julia Kim Smith, Molly Springfield, Anna Tsouhlarakis, Megan Van Wagoner, and Karen Yasinsky.
